The upscale runs on the server and typically finishes within a few minutes. The 4K copy appears next to the original, ready to download or drop into the editor.
Two engines, because faithful and detailed are different jobs
Upscaling has two honest goals that pull in opposite directions. Sometimes you want more pixels and nothing else — the same frame, sharper, with no invented content, which is what a broadcaster or a brand reviewer expects. Sometimes the source is genuinely soft and you want the upscaler to reconstruct texture that was never captured: pores, thread, the edge of a letter. Genfire ships an engine for each. A clip longer than Flux’s 20-second limit disables that engine up front rather than failing after you commit. Should I use Topaz or Flux to upscale my video?
Use Topaz when you want the same frame at a higher resolution with no invented detail, when the clip is longer than 20 seconds, or when cost matters — it is the faster, cheaper default. Use Flux when the source is soft and you want reconstructed fine texture, and choose Precise to stay faithful or Creative to let it add detail with an optional prompt.
Does upscaling change the frame rate or audio?
No. Upscaling increases resolution only — the frame rate, duration, and audio track of your source are preserved, and the result is saved as a new video next to the original.
Can I upscale videos from the API or a plugin?
Yes. The same Topaz and Flux engines are available at POST /v1/videos/upscale, as the genfire_upscale_video MCP tool, through the @genfire/cli upscale-video command, and inside the Genfire plugins for After Effects and the Layers editor.
